Why It’s Okay To Be The Opposite of your Partner

We’ve all heard the saying “opposites attract”. But does that really work when you are looking for your life partner? When you’re in the dating world, you are trying to find someone who you are compatible with. Maybe you’ve wondered if you can be compatible with someone who is the exact opposite of you. Well the truth is, you can. It is absolutely possible to have a healthy and happy relationship with your partner even if you don’t have everything in common. Here’s Why It’s Okay To Be The Opposite Of Your Partner.

More Alone Time

With having different interests than your partner, it’s going to be pretty easy to prioritize self-care and alone time. My husband has a softball game Friday night? Sweet. I get to stay home and watch dateline on the couch. This is truly music to my ears. Of course I love spending time with my husband, but it’s also important to never lose yourself when you are in a relationship. And for me, that means taking time to be alone because that’s where I am able to recharge and reset in order to be the best version of myself.

You Learn Something New

Your opposite partner can be the most meaningful teacher you can have. If you and your partner share different interests, this gives you a great opportunity to teach each other about your favorite things. your interests can be a great conversation starter or a fun new date night idea. You will always learn something new if you are open to exploring your partners interest.

You get a new perspective

When you date someone who is the complete opposite of you, you start to see things in a different light. You break old cycles and take on new experiences that you probably wouldn’t have without this person. You learn and grow while viewing things in a different way. Your mind will start to expand and you will be open to new beliefs and opinions that you might not have accepted before. You may end up adapting to new habits that you never would have previously. Having a partner who is opposite of you can give you a whole new perspective on many things in your life.

It helps you embrace your independence

Although it’s great to grow with your partner, sometimes it can be hard to not lose yourself once you get married. There will come a time in your relationship where you and your partner will want to do two different things – and that’s okay. Utilize your time apart to do the things you enjoy. It’s always good to share new experiences together, but it’s also important to take time out to do the things you enjoyed prior to getting together with your partner. When you focus on your own independence, you and your partner will appreciate each other’s different interests when you do spend time together.

You Will Balance Each Other Out

When you combine 2 people who are opposites, you will naturally settle somewhere in-between. You and your partner may see things differently, but when combined, you both start to see things in a different light. You truly do have the ring to your yang. If you are someone who is super uptight and gets easily overwhelmed, maybe your go-with-the-flow partner is exactly what you need to calm you down. When you and your partner are opposites, it gives you a great opportunity to balance each other out.

Are you and your partner polar opposites or exactly the same?
