How I’m Tweaking My Skincare Routine For Summer

It’s that time of year again – warmer weather and longer nights. And with that, it’s time to tweak your skincare routine for the summer. Ideally, switching to more gentle products in the summer time will do your skin a favor. Your skincare routine in the summer is not only important for preventing signs of aging, but is it’s also key for reducing your risk of skin cancer. From gentle cleansers to face mists, here are a few ways I’m tweaking my skincare routine for the summer.

According to Dermatologists, our Summer skincare routine should now include an SPF, a dual-purpose moisturizer, as well as a good vitamin C serum. I mentioned in my previous blog post that a New Habit to add into your routine this summer is to switch up your skincare routing. With more time spent outdoors and our skin being exposed to different elements, it’s time for a little more protection.

My previous skincare routine

I have beed a loyal customer to Proactiv for as long as I can remember. I was pretty blessed with clear skin up until my early twenties. Once I started experiencing acne for the first time, I really wasn’t sure how to handle it. Now, back in my early twenties was the time where proactive commercials were all over our television screens. Although I didn’t call the 1-800 number on the television screen, I did decide to pick up the 3-step kit at a kiosk in the mall. Ever since purchasing my first 3-step kit, Proactiv was my go-to. It really was the only thing that helped my skin, and it still does to this day.

Since I saw so much success with my skin using Proactive, I was really scared to ever try any other products on my skin. However, as we get older our skin changes, just like everything else. Although I love proactiv and what it does for my skin, it does tend to be a little more harsh the older I get. With all the new products available for our skin, this is the routine I’ve been trying this summer.

La-Roche Posay Cleanser

This skincare brand blew up all over TikTok a few months ago, so naturally I decided to give it a shot. This brand partners with dermatologists to develop effective skincare that is also affordable. I figured I had nothing to lose with a $16.99 face cleanser. This is a daily face was targeted for dry, sensitive-skin and I have seen nothing but good things happen for my skin since using this cleanser.

Along with the cleanser, I decided to try the Double Repair Face Moisturizer. No matter the time of year, my face tends to get really dry. I have always used gel moisturizers for my face as I felt like my skin would appropriately soak up the moisture and keep it hydrated all day long. So I was a little nervous to try the cream formula from La Roche Posay. But again, this product did not disappoint. This face moisturizer also has SPF which is a huge win for summer skincare. It is lightweight and immediately refreshing on the skin.

Uncommon Beauty

Now this is truly what I think changed the game for my skin this summer. I started incorporating the Pineapple Peptide Nectar from Uncommon Beauty to help brighten and protect my skin. This serum is packed with Vitamin C and is meant to help reduce the signs of aging. This product is thin, fresh and super hydrating on the skin, and I use it every single night before I go to sleep.

Using a Retinol product is something I never considered to have in my skincare routine until earlier this year. Retinol increases cell production in your skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Unfortunately, retinol serums can be a little harsh on the skin. This Retinol alternative from Uncommon Beauty has the same benefits of a Retinol Serum but is much more gentle on the skin. Another 10/10 from me.

The Last product I started incorporating into my skincare routine is the Daily Water Cream. This lightweight moisturizer is perfect for everyday wear. It’s extremely hydrating and will leave your skin feeling moist all day long. I like to switch between this water cream and the face moisturizer listed above. Both are extremely hydrating for my dry skin during the summer.

Although I will always love my Proactive 3-Step Routine, I know that it’s time to start taking better care of my skin the older I get. Incorporating an SPF, keeping my skin hydrated and using a retinol cream are just a few ways I am tweaking my skincare routine for the summer.
