2020 has been quite the year. And I think we can all agree that it took away so many plans and goals for so many of us. If you would have asked me in January where I would be 10 months later, I would never have anticipated being in the spot I am now. New Season Means New Habits
This year has brought so many changes and challenges to everyone for different reasons. If you know me at all, you would know that these upcoming cooler months are definitely not my favorite, and I thrive off of warm weather and sunshine. With this upcoming season that is going to be filled with so many new changes, I wanted to set some new goals for myself in the hopes to stay as positive as possible and to help keep my mental health on the right track.
Once we are moved and settled in our new house, I want to start adding some new lifestyle changes into my daily routine. I have set 10 goals for myself to start incorporating into my routine on a daily basis.
As much as I hate the cooler weather, I know the benefits of getting in Vitamin D. Sunshine plays a HUGE factor in my mood activity level. Even if it’s a short walk with the dogs, my goal is to step away and get outside for at least 30 minutes a day.
I go back and forth with admitting if I am a morning person or not. Typically in the cooler months I can say I’m not as much of a morning person as I am in the summer. Since having a baby, I’ve probably slept past 5:30 in the morning about 10 times. I’m definitely more of a morning person now that I’ve gotten used to waking up early with Braden. But once Braden’s schedule starts being more consistent, my goal is to try to get up a little earlier than him. I want to try to prioritize some “me” time.
I am the WORST at taking vitamins. But as I get older I’ve realized how important they are in order to help supplement the holes in my body. I’ve been doing a ton of research on what vitamins should be considered “essential” in your diet. My goal is to finally start incorporating them in order to help my mental and physical health.
I’ve always been such a slacker with fruits and vegetables once it gets cold outside. In the summer I crave all different kinds of fruits. However in the winter it is definitely one of the last things on my grocery list. I love fruits and vegetables, but I don’t reach for them as much during this time of the year.
I was a dancer for 10 years and a soccer player for over 15. It is so disappointing to know how terrible I truly am when it comes to stretching and recovery. I used to be pretty flexible in my dancing days. But now, even bending over to touch my toes is usually a struggle. Taking 5-10 minutes to stretch after every workout and incorporating yoga at least once a week is one of my top priorities.
I told my husband the other day that I have totally been slacking on cooking and trying new recipes. We had been living with my parents for over a month. And I will admit it was very hard to cook actual meals. We are all on top of each other in one tiny kitchen. I love to cook when I have the time. And a goal of mine is to incorporate new recipes into our routine at least once a week.
I don’t even have to explain this one. I suck at drinking water when I don’t prepare. My Hydrojug is the only way I am ever able to reach my water intake for the day.
Being a mom is harder than I ever thought it would be. It has definitely shown me how important it is to take care of yourself whenever you get the chance. Whether it’s a hot bath or a coffee date. It can also be taking a stroll through the aisles of target. I need to incorporate “me time” as much as possible.
I am definitely a homebody, however COVID has taken this to a completely different level. I live in sweatpants/shorts when I’m at home. But taking time to get ready a few days during the week is definitely something that helps my mood.
This will definitely be the hardest thing to change, as we know how tiring life with a baby can be. Add COVID to the mix, the last thing we want to do is leave the house. But I know how important it is to prioritize our marriage and make time for one another. Even adding a ‘date night in’ once a week I know will definitely strengthen our relationship and communication.
