If you’re struggling (like I am) to jump back into a fitness routine, these tips are for you. We all fall off the bandwagon sometimes, and it’s always SO HARD to start back over. We all hear people say “stop quitting so you won’t have to start over” but sometimes life happens and you have to start from square one, and THAT’S OKAY. Here is how to jump back into a fitness routine.
1. Make a plan: If you don’t plan what actions you are going to take, you are probably going to slack and continue to put off the healthy habits you are wanting to incorporate. Figure out what you want to start with first. If you want to start being more active, take a piece of paper and plan your workouts for the week. This doesn’t have to be complicated – make it simple! (Monday – walk around the neighborhood, Tuesday – Slow jog on the treadmill, Wednesday- 20 minutes of weightlifting. Thursday – 15 minutes of yoga/stretching. Start where you are, have a plan, and cross it off your to-do list. Going in blind is going to make you frustrated and you’ll feel unorganized – this is going to turn you away from what you want to achieve. I still love utilizing Beachbody workouts from the comfort of my own home!
2. Take baby steps. Don’t tell yourself that you’re going to eat 3 healthy meals a day, drink a gallon of water and cut out sweets. You’re going to set yourself up for failure. You need to take it one step at a time. Find a new healthy recipe to make a few times a week. Pinterest is a great resource to find easy healthy meals. Changing your diet to incorporate healthier options will make you feel so much better and will help give you so much more energy to where you will want to continue this healthier routine on a daily basis. Don’t overwhelm yourself on the first day.
3. Treat yourself to some cute workout clothes: I think every woman can agree that when you look good, you feel good. When you feel good, you perform better. Nowadays you can find so many cute workout outfits for such a great price. My suggestions are Old navy and Amazon. They have awesome/affordable clothing options that will make you want to kick ass in the gym
4. Set yourself up for success: This is all about planning and preparing. Lay your clothes out the night before, and have your breakfast planned with your ingredients ready to go. Have your water bottle filled up and in the fridge for you first thing in the morning. If you’re really struggling to find motivation to workout during the day, try sleeping in your workout clothes that way you have no excuse not to get it done.
5. Don’t do it alone: Find a friend to help hold you accountable. Even if this person isn’t doing what you’re doing, and even if their goals are different than yours, find someone who will help motivate you. Find someone who you can check in with on a daily basis. Sometimes all it takes is a text message from your boyfriend or best friend that will help encourage you to get your workout done. Trying to do it alone can be harder than you think. Try to find at least one person in your circle to help you reach your goals.
