It’s true when they say that when you have a clean space, you are going to be more productive. Not only do I feel that way when my space around me is clean, but it is also scientifically proven to be true. But I think it’s also true that sometimes staying organized when life gets crazy can seem like such an impossible task. With the changing seasons, I always like to start with a little refresh in my home. So if you struggle with having the motivation to keep a clean space, here are 6 ways you can feel more organized at home.
Even though the days are long, it’s going to be super beneficial for you to start tidying up a little bit every night before you hit the sheets. Save your deep cleaning for the weekend, and focus on picking up laundry, toys or your beauty products right before you go to bed. Try this Tip: Go purchase an aesthetically pleasing basket that fits into your room décor. At the end of every night, pick up the random items you find that are cluttering up your home. Place them in the basket and at the end of every week you can put every item back in their specific spot. This will help you still feel somewhat organized by not seeing junk everywhere without spending the extensive amount of time putting everything away at the end of an exhausting day.
I am a HUGE fan of storage bins. Especially with the changing seasons, I think the answer to having an organized home is to have specific locations for everything. But if you have a ton of stuff to organize, it can feel overwhelming. Instead of having a closet full of every clothing item you own, take the time to switch out the items based on the season. Grab a large storage tote and rotate your clothing out every season, keeping only what’s necessary in your closet. If you’re sick of looking at a carpet covered with toys, find some aesthetically pleasing bins that are nice to look at that can hold all of the toys you don’t want to stare at every day.
If your mind is running a million miles a minute, try incorporating lists into your daily routine. Whether it’s a written list, or using the notes app on your phone, write down everything you need or want to get done during the week. Maybe you’ve noticed that your guest bathroom needs a little more attention. Or the organizing you’ve been putting off in the playroom has gotten a little out of hand. Writing it down on a to-do list will help prioritize that task that you’ve been putting off for so long. If it’s out of sight, then it’s out of mind, and you’re probably going to continue putting it off. But when you have a physical list that you can look at throughout the week, you’re more than likely going to start tackling those tasks once you see the visual reminder.
Maybe you’re realizing that your home feels extra cluttered lately. Well, it’s probably likely that you haven’t gone through your belongings in a long time. With the changing seasons, try going through your closet and donate the pieces you haven’t worn in a while. My mother always taught me that if I haven’t worn a piece of clothing in 6-8 months, it’s probably time to get rid of it. The same should go for toys and even home décor. If you’re noticing a toy that hasn’t been played with in a long time, maybe it’s time to donate it to your local daycare, or stash it in your basement and rotate it out. Have a home décor item that you no longer use? Donate it to a friend or drop it off at a Goodwill location. Getting rid of the obvious clutter around you is such an easy way to make you feel more organized.
I don’t know about you, but my kitchen is probably the most used room in our house. Nothing makes me feel more overwhelmed and unorganized than having a messy kitchen. Every night before I head to bed, I make it a priority to have a clean kitchen. I want the dishes out of the sink and the countertops completely cleaned off. With the kitchen being the main focal point in our home, nothing makes me feel less organized than a messy kitchen. This could be a different room for you – so if it’s not the kitchen, think about what room you spend the most time in. Whatever that room may be, make it a priority to clean it before you go to bed.
I know not everyone enjoys cleaning. My husband is a great example of this. He could easily live in a house with a messy kitchen. And he wouldn’t take a second look at the piles of laundry stacking up in the bedroom. Maybe you have a lot of people in your home, or maybe you feel like your home is never clean. This can easily cause a ton of stress while thinking that this is just another chore on your never-ending to-do list. Once you start recognizing the benefits of a clean home, you will probably start enjoying it more. According to psychology today, there are a ton of scientific benefits when it comes to maintaining a clean environment. Once you start enjoying cleaning while seeing the benefits in your daily routine, I guarantee you are going to start doing it more often.
